Conference ‘Extra-Territoriality and Extradition’

September 2022 saw the return of the ELA’s annual conference exploring the topic of extra-territoriality and extradition.
Following an introductory welcome by ELA Vice-Chair James Hines KC, speakers explored the topic from a range of perspectives.
Sir Howard Morrison OBE CBE KCMG QC, Independent Adviser to the Ukrainian Prosecutor General, spoke about the progress with the investigation and prosecution of war crimes committed in Ukraine.
Professor Terje Einarsen, University of Bergen, addressed the expansion of extraterritorial jurisdiction as an alternative to extradition. Professor Einarsen’s presentation is available here.

Conference ‘Extradition in International Law: Challenges and Solutions’

On 4 November 2021, the ELA hosted its 2021 conference on the theme of ‘Extradition in International Law: Challenges and Solutions.’
Following an introductory welcome by the ELA’s Honorary President, Lord Lloyd-Jones, ELA Vice-Chair James Hines QC hosted an illustrious panel of guest speakers who addressed the following topics:
HHJ Joanna Korner CMG QC, current Judge of the International Criminal Court, on the rule 11bis procedure at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. Judge Korner’s presentation is available here.
Sir Howard Morrison OBE CBE KCMG QC, former Judge of the International Criminal Court and Associate Tenant at Doughty Street Chambers, on co-operation issues in surrender to the International Criminal Court.

The Trade and Co-operation Agreement: Four Months On
